Principles

In asking for your support and your vote, you should know more about me than a resume or “issues” discussion will tell you. An “issues” page for matters pertinent to Grimes County will be posted later. However, in order for you to know me, a discussion of principles is important now. This page might be better called my philosophy but it is a mix of both principles and beliefs, so I’ll just call it Principles.

I am a Christian. There is no better set of rules to live by than those handed down by God to Moses in the Ten Commandments. As simple as they are, they are often difficult to live up to. I make no claim to doing even a good job of it but that does not mean we should not try.

I am a conservative and a Republican because that Party comes closest to my beliefs and principles. All too often the Republican Party has disappointed me greatly, especially through its leaders. They seem to still believe in the “big tent” theory of inclusion, although we know very well a political party cannot be all things to all people and maintain its integrity.

Here is a short list of some of my beliefs and principles:

  • Taxes should be as low as possible and still maintain a functional government
  • The least government is the best government – bigger is not better
  • Your property is yours, not the government’s – eminent domain should be restricted
  • Life is a God-given gift, let’s not destroy it before it is born
  • Marriage is a partnership between a man and a woman
  • Control our borders - no amnesty for illegal aliens
  • We have a Constitutional right to bear arms – the 2nd Amendment means what it says

Our nation was founded on Judeo-Christian beliefs and principles with a capitalist economic system. That has made our nation the greatest on earth; let’s keep it that way. Let’s start with Grimes County.
